Rights and responsibilities

To obtain a rental license for any new or existing residential property, property owners must comply with the Rental Housing Code, Chapter 14, Businesses.

The property owner is responsible for:

  • Obtaining the rental license
  • Maintaining the property
  • Managing the tenants
  • Providing parking for tenants with vehicles

Reporting a concern or complaint

If a tenant has concerns regarding the rental property and its compliance to the rental housing code:

  1. Work with the property owner or landlord to resolve the situation.
  2. If this does not produce results in a reasonable time, please contact the city Building Inspections office for assistance.
