Disposing bulk items and electronics
Residents may make special arrangement with Dick’s Sanitation, Inc. (DSI), to pick up bulk items and electronics for a fee. DSI will bill and collect directly with residents.
Make arrangements with DSI before putting these items on your curb for pickup.

Improper use or disposal of hazardous materials can be harmful to human health and the environment. Residents should contact their county's authorized disposal center how to dispose of materials.

Contact the city to set up service and order your carts. Charges for garbage and yard waste collection services appear on monthly utility bills.

Pickup day
Garbage is picked up every week. Recycling is picked up day every other week on the same day as your garbage. Northfield follows the Gold Week on the calendar.

Time of pickup
Place your carts out on your curb before 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day. Do not wait for the truck to pass by.

Placement of carts
Place your carts (garbage, recycling and yard waste) on opposite sides of your driveway on the curb. Do no place carts in the street, or near mailboxes, trees, basketball hoops or other obstacles.
Additional garbage pickup service
In the event that one week’s garbage does not fit into a container, a pay-as-you-throw sticker can be used on bags containing waste not to exceed 50 pounds.
Stickers can be purchased at City Hall in the Finance Department, Family Fare or Cub Foods.

Christmas trees
DSI collects real Christmas trees during the first two Mondays of January. They collect only one tree per household. Place the real tree on the curb near your garbage cart. Please call ahead for pickup to 952-469-2239.

The garbage, recycling and yard waste services are contracted through Dick's Sanitation, Inc. (DSI). Please contact them for a missed pickup and general service questions.

Holiday schedule for pickup
DSI observes the following holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Service will be delayed one day starting on the holiday of that week.
